23rd Annual Day Celebration of KUSO was held on Sunday, 3rd January, 2016 at the Auditorium of Natakashiromani A.V. Varadhachar Memorial Art Association, Seshadripuram, Bengaluru - 560020 with the massive participation of KUSO members along with their family members , friends and relatives. The celebrations commenced at 8-00 a.m. with a hearty Breakfast.

The Games / competitions also started in the early hours which included - rangoli competitions for ladies, lemon-spoon race for ladies and children, tug of war for both gents and ladies and a walking competition for lady senior citizens. The main function commenced in side the auditorium with Invocation song by Master N.V.S. Abhirama Arjun and Baby N.V.S. Rakshana and a devotional dance by R.B. Sangeetha.

Sri L. Shrihai Khoday, Chairman and M.D. of Khoday group of industries and Chairman of ABSSK Samaj presided over the function. Dr. K.N.K. Ganesh, the President of Tamilnadu Sourashtra Educationists Confederation and Secretary & Correspondent of KLN institutions was the Chief Guest.

The Special Invitees were Sri S.R. Anantharaman, General Secretary of Tamilnadu Sourashtra Educationists Confederation and Secretary of IIPE Laxmiraman Higher Secondary School, Tirunelveli. Sri A.R. Jegannath, Treasurer, Tamilnadu Sourashtra Educationists Confederation and Secretary of Sourashtra High School Council. Sri R.B.R. Ramasubramanian, Secretary, Tamilnadu Sourashtra Educationists Confederation and General Secretary of Sourashtra Madhya Sabha.
Sri T.R. Sugunanandam, Founder & Ex-President, Puducherry Sourashtra Sabha. KUSO E.C. member Sri P.R. Gopinath comprered the programmes as the Master of Ceremonies. The ceremony of Lighting the lamp was performed by the function President , the Chief Guest and the special invitees.

KUSO President Sri K.V.Pathy gave the Welcome address. He made the following points:
1. KUSO is carrying out a number of activities. One of the important activity is maintaining a simple Guest House for accommodating Sourashtra students and young men from other places for writing examinations, attending interviews etc. This facility is provided free of charge for a maximum of three days. KUSO needs financial assistance for this activity on a regular basis.
2. He requested the Sourashtra Educationists Federation to provide facilities for 'Skill Development' of our young men after they pass out of schools/colleges, to make them more employable. Facilities are being given by Central and State Governments. Which can be made use of, for which proper guidance should be given to our young people.
3. Recently the World Bank has provided aid of U.S.$ 50 million (as per Press reports) for the development of Minorities in India. Our community, as a Linguistic Minority should take action for getting these benefits.
4. CIIL, Mysore are willing to assist in developing our language. Educationists Federation should ask their member Institutions to start free classes for those students willing to learn our language in any script of their choice. Teachers are already trained and available.
5. The Sourashtra Madhya Sabha should give more importance to the Sourashtras and their Associations outside Tamilnadu -like Karnataka, Andhra, Telangana, Mumbai, Delhi etc.
6. Convention of Sourashtra Diaspora at Bangalore - Efforts should be started to hold an International Convention of Sourashtras living in other countries like U.S.A., U.K., Germany, Austria, Middle East, Singapore etc. after giving sufficient time of about one year. KUSO and Madhya Sabha can collaborate in this effort with help from Sri V.G. Giridharan (of KUSO) who now lives in USA and is willing to coordinate.

Sri T.S. Jayabalan, General Secretary presented the Annual Report detailing the activities of KUSO and achievements during the past year. The President of the function Sri Shrihari Khoday was honoured by the Chief Guest. In his address he emphasized the need for our historic community to strive unitedly for the development of our language, culture including arts like dance etc. and also advance in education, business, industry and agriculture. He conveyed his greetings for the new year.

The Special Invitees were then honoured and they spoke giving their views. Sri S.R. Anantharaman in his speech praised KUSO as the backbone of Sourashtra Community which has approximate 20 lakh population. Sri A.R. Jegannath wanted that Sourashtras in other States also should form organisations on the model of KUSO.
Sri R.B.R. Ramasubramanian traced the history of our community for the past 703 years and mentioned the names of the Saint Srimad Venkataramana Bhagavathar, Sri C.S. Ramachary, the industrialist and in political field Rashtrabandhu L.K. Thulasiram (who had visited London), Sri N.M.R. Subbaraman (Madurai Gandhi), Sri T.K. Rama and Sri A.G. Subbaraman (M.P.). He invited all Sourashtras to the Mahanadu to be held at Chennai on 26th Jan. 2016.
Sri T.R. Sugunanandam emphasised that our identity is our language. Then the Chief Guest was honoured by KUSO President and General Secretary. In his speech he said that for the advancement of our community we should progress in education, business and politics also. Responding to the appeal by KUSO President he also made an on -the- spot donation to KUSO. Next, KUSO Calendar for 2016 was released by the Chief Guest Dr. K.N.K.Ganesh.
The function Sponsors and Donors, SONNA KODUM and Calendar Advertisers, Doctors and para medical staff who conducted the Free Medical camp and Blood Donation camp were introduced to the audience and honored on the stage. All the KUSO Office bearers, E.C. members, Service incharges and lady volunteers were introduced to the audience.
The President of The Sourashtra Association, Bangalore, Sri Muddukrishnaiah, 'Bhasha Sammaan' awardee Sri K.R. Sethuraman, Sri K.V.Manohar of BVK group, Sri R.S.S. Nathan, Ex-President of Delhi Sourashtra Association, Sri K.R. Surendran, Vice President of Sourashtra Madhya Sabha , Sri Venkata Rayulu from Tirupathi Sourashtra Sabha were some of those who attended our function. Cultural programmes.
These were conducted by Vice President Sri R.K. Sridharan, Committee Members Sri P.M. Balaji and R.R. Venkatesh Fancy Dress Competition for children, A Lunch break was taken from 2-00 p.m. to 3-00 p.m. and a tasty and sumptuous lunch served methodically was enjoyed by all the participants.

Musical chair competitions for children and women, dance competitions, 'one minute competition' for men were also held with massive applause from the audience. The 'Free Medical Camp' was organized by KUSO & Dr. Chdambara Vadivu BSMS Rajat Jain Convenor,Acharya Tulsi Diagnostic Center, Rajaji Nagar, Bangalore and Dr. Saroja Jagadessan MBBS.
The Blood Dnation Camp was organised by KUSO & Sri Deepak-Blood Donation Camp incharge and Dcotors from Lions blood Bank, Bangalore. Many of the Sourashtra people and the general public got their sugar, blood pressure checked and consulted the doctors present. The Free medical camp was welcomed by people.
'Early Bird' Award and Prizes for all the competitions were distributed by Sri K.V. Pathy, President, KUSO., Sri B.R.Vasu, Swati Electronics Prizes were also presented to the winners in all competitions and participants. Sri Kousalya Rani won the prize for successfully answering the '5 Questions' asked to the audience.
The Annual Day Celebrations were jointly and severally conducted by the Team of KUSO office bearers and E.C.members, Service incharges Smt. Ramila Devadoss Babu, Smt. Shanthi Baskar, Smt. Yogeshwari Nagarajan, Smt. Kamalam Balaji, Kavitha Saravanan, Smt. Manjula Gopinathan and Smt. Subhapriya Krishnakumar had also assisted for the grand success of the annual day celebrations.
